Rita graduated in 1997 from NYU with a BFA in Film & Television, which marked the change of her career, after six years as a professional ballet dancer in Paris and Lisbon. She worked as an Assistant Editor in Europe before entering the Editing program at the American Film Institute, where she received her Masters degree in 2005. Her Thesis Film TROJAN COW was a qualifying short and runner up for the 2006 Academy Awards, and has won numerous festivals and prizes including the Grand Jury Prize at the USA Film Festival, the College Television Awards, Best Film at the Jackson Hole Film Festival and the Grand Prize at the Angelus Student Film Awards. Since AFI, Rita has assisted on the George Lucas & Sean Connery "AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards" broadcasted on the USA Network, and she has recently finished editing the feature-length documentary LEGACY for Lobo Productions.
