Michelle began her costume design career in Chicago theatre, working at theatres such as the Goodman, Chicago Shakespeare, and the Steppenwolf. Her work in Chicago Theatre earned her a Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Costume Design and an After Dark Award for Best Costume Design for two different plays. She then moved to Los Angeles to pursue costume design in film, where she began by designing several thesis films at the American Film Institute. Many of these award winning short films have been shown in festivals around the world. The relationships she forged at AFI led her to design feature films with the alumni, including SOUTH OF HEAVEN, MOONPIE and ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE, which was a smash success at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival where, and was purchased by the Weinstein Company for theatrical distribution in the fall of 2007.
